Day 1New YorkNew York, NY We depart tonight on our flight to Rome. Breakfast and dinner are served aboard the flight.
Day 2SorrentoSorrento Upon arrival in Rome, we are met by our tour escort and transfer via private motorcoach to southern Italy and the magical city of Sorrento, with its breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples. Dinner and overnight in Sorrento. (D)
Day 3SorrentoSorrento This morning we enjoy a half-day sightseeing excursion to Naples. We begin with a panoramic tour, including the historic center with the San Paulo Maggiore Church, which boasts two Roman columns as part of its façade. We continue to the harbor area, the Angevin Castle, built in the 13th century, and the Park of Capodimonte atop a small incline north of the city. The Royal Palace of Capodimonte, noted for its porcelain collection, is located in this park. We enjoy an afternoon at leisure in Sorrento for independent sightseeing and shopping. Day 4San Giovanni RotondoSan Giovanni Rotondo We depart Sorrento after breakfast at the hotel. We arrive in San Giovanni Rotondo in the afternoon where we will celebrate Mass. Following Mass we visit Padre Pio's tomb and cell, the old church where he received the stigmata, his confessional, and the new Church of Santa Maria Delle Grazia. Also visit the Grotto of St. Michael and Padre Pio's most famous charitable work - the Home for the Relief of Suffering. Dinner and overnight in San Giovanni Rotondo. (B, D)
Day 5LoretoLoreto This morning we depart for Loreto with a stop in Lanciano, the town with the Eucharistic Miracle of Jesus in a special Monstrance in the Tabernacle. Later in the afternoon we arrive in Loreto and visit the Basilica where the home of the Holy Family of Nazareth now stands without a foundation. Dinner and overnight in Loreto. (B, D)
Day 6AssasiAssisi Begin the day with a tour of Assisi, as we celebrate the life of St. Francis. We visit the Basilica of St. Francis, with its wonderful frescoes by Giotto, the Convent of St. Clare, and the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. A highlight of our day is celebration of Mass at the Portiuncula. We enjoy some free time in the afternoon for additional sightseeing, prayer or shopping. Dinner and overnight in Assisi. (B, D)
Day 7AssasiAssisi Today is a treat for all the senses, as we discover breathtaking Florence, "City of Art." We begin with a visit to the world-renowned Accademia, to view the works of many Renaissance masters including Michelangelo's "David." We also explore the Duomo and the Baptistry with its bronze "Gates Worthy of Heaven." In the afternoon, we visit a local winery for a private wine tasting and tour. We return to Assisi for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 8RomeRome This morning we travel to Rome for a half-day of sightseeing which includes a visit to the ancient Colosseum and the archeological area of the Roman Forum. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B, D)
Day 9RomeRome Today we visit several major basilicas in Rome including the 1600-year-old St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran, the Cathedral of Rome, and St. Paul Outside the Walls, built over the Saint's burial place. In the afternoon, we explore the world-renowned Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B, D)
Day 10RomeRome This morning we celebrate Mass at a side altar in St. Peter's before attending the Papal Audience (if available). In the afternoon, we spend time in St. Peter's on an interior tour of this magnificent Basilica, and have an opportunity to spend a few moments to pray at the tomb of Pope John Paul II. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B, D)
Day 11RomeRome Today we enjoy a free day to discover the beauty and inspiration that is Rome. We can wander through some of Rome's colorful neighborhoods, visit one of the city's museums, or shop. An optional excursion (at additional cost) is offered to Hadrian's Villa and Villa D'Este. This evening we transfer to a local restaurant for a special farewell dinner with wine and music. Overnight in Rome. (B, D)
